Research at Hardy Healthcare Associates

Philosophy

Research has an important role at Hardy Healthcare Associates (HHA) even though we are a small group practice.  Conducting research is an extension of our clinical work since we are always looking at new ideas and for new ways of treating difficult disorders.  For many years Dr. Hardy has been on the forefront of the neuropsychopharmacologic management of the developmental disabilities, especially autism.  During his tenure at Tufts University School of Medicine in the Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry, Dr. Hardy lectured extensively on this subject and helped to train medical students and residents in this field.

During the past several years HHA has been involved in three formal research projects:

  • Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids in the Treatment of Autism.
  • Secretin in the Treatment of Autism. This was a phase three multi-center study funded by the Repligen Corp.
  • aripiprazole (Abilify) in the Treatment of Autism. This is a phase four open label trial sponsored by Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceuticals.
  • Oralgam:  A Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Phase II Trial Evaluating Safety and Efficacy of Oral Human Immunoglobulin in the Treatment of Gastrointestinal Dysfunction Associated with Autistic Disorder in Pediatric Patients from 2 to 18 Years of Age
